Three Cool Solar Power competitions

Competition is the best way to promote innovation and creativity, especially in an emerging technology like solar energy.  Forcing the teams to compete shall encourage problem solving and out box thinking that can promote the industry and open minds, competitors and observers alike.  I thought I would outline three cool solar competitions, which stretched the limits of what the Sun can do and can only change how we look at this industry.

1. the American Solar Challenge

This competition is centered around a cross-country skiing race, which must be completed by the cars operated solely by the Sun. groups from universities in the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia design and build their own cars.  This year's race stretches from Kansas to Chicago.
Team challenged to create the easiest and most efficient cars as possible in order to win. and since both hybrid electric cars and solar would be a big part of our future, how cool would it be if we could combine them to power our vehicles with Sun? it may seem like a longshot, but tell not Universiry of Michigan, this year's winner.Find out more about the Solar Challenge here.

 2. the Solar Decathlon
This is probably the most famous solar competition in the United States on the National Mall. Held in Washington DC, teams from all over the world compete every two years to create beautiful, efficient, and perhaps most importantly, the market viable home that use solar energy for heating and power.
Teams compete in 10 categories: architecture, market viability, Engineering, Lighting Design, communication, Comfort Zone, Hot Water, appliances, Home Entertainment and net metering. The challenge for the teams is the balance of all these aspects, and create a home that can be moved to Washington DC to judge.Last years winner was Germany, which stresses the need for the United States to play catchup in the global solar market. to find out more about the Solar Decathlon, click here.

3. the Sun for all Design Contest
Perhaps the least known, but most important, the contest Solar for all Contest. the purpose of this competition is to challenge participants to find ways to extend solar technology to 1.6 billion people worldwide lack access to power. [citation needed] many of these people use dirty, sickening Kerosene or timber to create light and chef. to find ways to make solar, accessible and affordable would assist both the environment and quality of life for billions of people.

This year's winner was the Greenlight Planet, which created an affordable solar Lantern, which will be distributed in India. the company received a $ 250,000 investment from Deutsche Bank and hope to start selling their light on the world stage in the next 5 years.
